Mundra West Basin Coal Terminal is an operating mechanized coal-import terminal at Mundra Port in Kutch district, Gujarat, India. It is owned and operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ).
The facility is also referred to as the Mundra West Port Coal Terminal, West Basin Bulk Terminal, and Coal and Bulk Terminal.
Location
The terminal is located near Tunda and Wandh villages, approximately 10 nautical miles west of Mundra Port's original terminals.[1]
Background
West Basin commenced commercial operations on December 12, 2010, when the bulk carrier CSK Beilun became the first cargo vessel to use the terminal. APSEZ described the facility as having a designed coal-handling capacity of 60 million tonnes per annum.[2]
The terminal was initially developed with three mechanized berths, with Berth WB3 commissioned on April 15, 2011.[3]
As of 2025, West Basin had four mechanized dry-bulk berths: WB1, WB2, WB3 and WB4. Each berth is approximately 325 metres long. WB1 through WB3 can accommodate vessels of up to approximately 266,000 deadweight tonnes, while WB4 can accommodate vessels of up to approximately 321,000 deadweight tonnes.[4]
The terminal includes mechanized ship unloaders, coal stockyards, stacker-reclaimers, rapid rail-loading facilities and a conveyor system connecting the port with the nearby Adani and Tata coal-fired power stations. It also supplies coal to customers in western and northern India.[5]
