The Visakhapatnam Port EQ1A Terminal is an operating multipurpose dry-bulk terminal at Visakhapatnam Port in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The terminal was cancelled under a concession with SEW Vizag Coal Terminal Private Limited, and was subsequently completed by the port authority in 2025.
Location
The terminal is situated immediately south of the Visakhapatnam Port EQ1 Coal Terminal in the port's inner harbour. It is part of Visakhapatnam Port, located on the east coast of India in the state of Andhra Pradesh, along the Bay of Bengal.
Background
The terminal was originally planned as a fully mechanized coal terminal with an annual capacity of 7.36 million tonnes. The concession was awarded to SEW Vizag Coal Terminal Private Limited, a consortium associated with SEW Infrastructure and ALBA Asia. The concessionaire did not complete the project, and the Visakhapatnam Port Authority terminated the concession and assumed responsibility for the facility.[1]
The terminal was subsequently completed and operated by the Visakhapatnam Port Authority. In August 2024, Green Energy Resources received a letter of award to operate EQ1A, with comprehensive cargo-handling operations scheduled to begin in July 2025.[2]
EQ1A can handle coal, coke, limestone, iron ore, bauxite and other dry-bulk commodities. The terminal can accommodate both imports and exports and is equipped with two 124-tonne Liebherr harbour mobile cranes.[2]
Environmental approval issued in 2025 retained the terminal's total annual capacity at 7.36 million tonnes but changed its authorized cargo from steam coal to coal of all types and iron ore. The approval did not provide a separate coal-only capacity.[3]
