Background

The Riverport Barranquilla terminal is one of the three largest coal export terminals in the Port of Barranquilla (the other two are the SPR Barranquilla and Compas Barranquilla terminals).[1] Operated by Sociedad Portuaria Riverport S.A.[2][3], the terminal began shipping coal in 2015, registering an annual throughput of 19,999 tonnes in its first year.[3] The terminal features a 42,500m3 coal storage yard and a conveyor belt system feeding a ship loader for direct loading of vessels.[2] At the time of its commissioning, the port was said to be capable of handling roughly 40% of Colombia's metallurgical coal exports.[4]

Coal handling capacity

According to various sources, the Riverport Barranquilla terminal has an annual coal handling capacity of between 1.5 mtpa[2] and 2 Mtpa[4] of coal.
