Stratum Coal

From Global Energy Monitor

Stratum Coal Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Stratum Metals[1], a Sydney headquartered mining exploration company with interests in gold, copper, nickel projects to the north and north-west of Kalgoorlie and a coal exploration project west of Broome in the Canning Basin in the Kimberley region.[2]

In its 2011/2012 annual report Stratum Metals states that Stratum Coal "will look to acquire coking or thermal coal tenements located in and around Western Australia’s Canning Basin and internationally." The company states that in 2012/2013 it aims to "progress field work on the Canning Basin coal project" and that the work would be done "within" Stratum Coal.[3]

Assessment of coal potential of the Canning Basin the in Kimberley

In its 2011/2012 annual report Stratum stated that:

"The Canning Basin coal project is targeting what is expected to be thermal coal. Based on the likely coal quality, expected coal prices and operating costs of potential mining, Stratum has determined development of an underground mining operation in the area is not likely to be economically viable. With this in mind the exploration focus in the coming year will be on identifying targets likely to allow definition of thermal coal suitable for open pit and/or slot mining followed by application of highwall mining techniques".[4]

Stratum Coal has exploration tenements approximately 10 kilometres to the south east of the Duchess/Paradise geology which underlies Rey Resources touted Duchess/ Paradise Coal Project.[5]
