Navlakhi GMB Coal Terminal is an operating coal and solid-bulk terminal at Navlakhi Port in Morbi district, Gujarat, India. The terminal is owned and operated by the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB).
It is one of four separately operated coal-handling jetties within the Navlakhi Group of Ports. The other coal-handling facilities are the Navlakhi United Shippers Coal Terminal, Navlakhi Shreeji Shipping Coal Terminal and Navlakhi Jaydeep Associates Coal Terminal.[1]
Location
The port is situated in Hansthal Creek at the southwestern end of the Gulf of Kutch.
Background
The GMB jetty is approximately 163 metres long and 25 metres wide. It has an alongside draft of approximately 4.5 metres and can accommodate barges of up to approximately 3,000–4,400 deadweight tonnes.[2]
Coal is unloaded using excavators or shore-based handling equipment and moved to open storage yards before being dispatched by road or rail. The port has historically maintained approximately 16.78 hectares of open storage space for coal.[2]
The Gujarat Maritime Cluster reports a capacity of 4.2 million tonnes per annum for the GMB jetty. This is the jetty's total cargo-handling capacity.[1]
The GMB jetty handles imported coal and coke as well as other solid-bulk cargo. Gujarat Maritime Board identifies coal, coke, fluorspar, and pig iron among the commodities imported through its Navlakhi facilities.[3]
