Background
The Azeisky coal mine (Азейский разрез - Тулунуголь) is an operating surface mine in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia.
Azeisky coal mine is owned and operated by a branch of Vostsibugol LLC, which in turn is owned by En+ Group.[3][4]
The mine is part of Tulunugol branch which also operates the younger Tulunugol-Mugunsky coal mine. The two mine sites are about 50 km apart.[5]
Mining has taken place at the Azeisky coal mine since 1969. Production peak was achieved in 1987 - 15 million tonnes.[6]
Information on the mine's production is very limited. 2016 production according to Wikipedia was 2.3 Mt.[7] Joint production of the Azeisky mine and the Tulunugol-Mugunsky coal mine in 2018 was 7.5 million tonnes.[8] In the first half of 2022, the combined production of Tulunugol mines (Azeisky and Tulunugol-Mugunsky coal mine) was 2.25 million tonnes, which was 21% higher than in the same period in 2021.[9] A media source from August 2023 stated that the actual production capacity of the mine is 1.8 million tonnes.[10]
The main consumer of coal produced by Azeisky are the power stations of Irkutsenergo - Novo-Irkutsk power station, Novo-Ziminskaya power station, Irkutsk-9 power station, Irkutsk-10 power station, Irkutsk-11 power station, Baikal power station and Selenginskaya power station.[6]
