Turkish government agencies and energy policy and their respective roles in energy policy are:[1]
- Energy Market Regulatory Agency (EPDK) has responsibility for the licensing of new energy projects, including renewables;
- Turkey Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK) has responsibility for planning the development of nuclear power;
- Privatization Administration (OIB) has carriage of the privatization of public assets including power stations and distribution companies.
- Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS) is the monopoly owner of the Turkish electricity transmission system;
- Turkish Electricity Distribution A.S. (TEDAS) - TEDAS distributes and sells electricity to users in Turkey;
- Electricity Generation Company (EUAS) - the state-owned EUAS owns and operates the power stations which are not sold to private companies. It also owns those power stations which have had operating transferred to a private company.
- General Directorate of Mineral Research & Exploration (MTA) - has responsibility for exploration for mineral resources and assessment of whether they are appropriate for development;
- General Directorate of Mining Affairs (MİGEM) - responsible for approval and regulation of mines; and
- General Directorate of Turkish Coal (TKI) - TKİ undertakes the assessment and planning of the country's lignite deposits.
